Happy Thanksgiving 2014 - Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias

We often times take things and life for granted.  I believe that what has happened is that we live life going 100 miles per hour, and we forget that we should savor every moment of the day.   Life is precious, and we must enjoy it while we have it.

I hope that each and everyone of you celebrates this Thanksgiving in your own special way.  Be thankful for just being.

Join the Fight Against Cancer

You can join the fight against cancer and bring out your hooks or knitting needles to make a chemo hat for someone you know or as a donation.

It doesn't have to be anything fancy.  Remember to keep the body of the hat closed.   Try to stay away from lacy or open stitches, and choose your yarn wisely.  Wool can be uncomfortable on the skin of many persons.  Light-weight yarns are ideal for year-round comfort.  Consider a light cotton or acrylic blend.

Day of the Dead Festival - Celebremos el Día de los Muertos

The Day of the Dead is a celebration honoring all those who have passed.  It is a time of remembrance and reverence for our departed loved ones.

The history dates back hundreds of years to the time of the ancient civilizations in Mexico.   Scholars and historians trace the history to an ancient Aztec festival honoring the goddess, Mictecacihuatl, who was associated with the underworld and afterlife.

In modern times, the Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1(All Saints' Day) and November 2 (All Souls' Day).

A Farewell to Elizabeth Peña, Prolific Latina Artist

I was disheartened to hear about the death of one of my favorite Latina artists from the big screen.

Elizabeth Peña died earlier this month at the early age of 55 due to complications from alcoholism.    She is survived by her husband, Han Rolla, and two children. (source usmagazine.com)

My heart is saddened at the loss of Ms. Peña because she was a prolific artist who always performed with exceptional talent on the screen.   May she rest in peace.
